Is an Action Figure the Right Product Type?

Choose this route when movement, pose range, joints, accessories or interchangeable parts define the finished product. A useful brief connects the sculpt to the way the figure moves, assembles and fits inside its package.

01

Body, Scale & Pose Targets

Confirm overall height, proportion, display footprint and the poses the finished figure must achieve.

  • ● Character proportion and silhouette
  • ● Pose range and display support
  • ● Armor, hair and clothing clearance
  • 02

    Joint & Part Architecture

Place movable interfaces and part splits around appearance, assembly, material behavior and repeat handling.

  • ● Joint location and visible trade-offs
  • ● Fit, friction and retention intent
  • ● Part count and assembly sequence
  • 03

    Heads, Hands & Accessories

Treat every interchangeable element as part of the same dimensional and packaging system.

  • ● Head and hand interfaces
  • ● Weapons, props, helmets and stands
  • ● Grip, peg and storage requirements
  • 04

    Finish, SKUs & Pack-Out

Connect decoration and variants to the approved sample, tray layout and final completeness checks.

  • ● Color separation and print details
  • ● Colorways and per-SKU quantities
  • ● Retail presentation and cartons
  • Engineer the Required Movement Before Tooling

More joints do not automatically create a better figure. The joint system should deliver the intended poses while protecting appearance, stability, assembly and repeat handling.

Pose Range · Joint Clearance · Accessory Fit · Balance
    01

    Movement Intent

Identify the poses and handling conditions that matter to the product instead of adding joints without a defined use.

    02

    Clearance & Appearance

Check where body surfaces, armor, clothing or hair restrict movement and where joint exposure is acceptable.

    03

    Fit & Material Behavior

Review interface geometry and suitable material behavior around assembly, friction, flexibility and retention.

    04

    Accessory Interfaces

Confirm grip, peg, head, hand, weapon, prop and stand connections against the intended use and packaging plan.

    05

    Assembly & Finish Protection

Plan the assembly order so joints and mixed components can be installed without avoidable damage to finished surfaces.

    06

    Approval & Inspection

Translate the approved sample into clear fit, movement and visual checkpoints for production inspection.

    Part-function logic

Materials Are Selected by Part Function

The visible body, joints, flexible parts, clear effects, accessories and structural inserts may require different properties. Material recommendations follow the required movement, fit, appearance, manufacturing method and applicable testing needs rather than a single material label for the whole figure.

Part or function What the engineering review considers
Shells, armor and rigid structuresRigidity, dimensional stability, surface quality and decoration.
Joints, shafts and connectorsWear behavior, friction, retention and repeated movement.
Flexible or interference-prone partsFlexibility, assembly method and movement clearance.
Transparent and effect partsAppearance, clarity, stress behavior and packaging protection.
Decorated partsAdhesion, masking, contact areas and production consistency.
    Approval
The prototype should prove construction and movement—not only reproduce a rendered pose.

From Authorized Character Assets to Packed Figures

Buyer approvals are placed before irreversible production decisions. Core development, tooling, molding, decoration, assembly, inspection and final pack-out are managed by FigCrafts.

What Determines an Action Figure Quote?

Price and production route cannot be separated from product definition. The useful first quote identifies what is known, what still needs engineering and which approvals affect tooling or production.

    Typical injection production MOQ
    500–1,000 units

Confirmed after review of structure, tooling, material, decoration, accessories, variants and packaging. One-unit needs follow a suitable prototype route.

    01

    Size, Scale & Parts

Overall height, proportion, part count and the construction required for the intended poses.

    02

    Joints & Materials

Movable interfaces, mixed-material needs, assembly behavior and the route required to form each part.

    03

    Tooling Scope

Mold count, part layout, approved construction and any changes discovered during DFM or sample review.

    04

    Decoration

Color separation, spray masks, pad printing, facial details, metallic effects and hand-finishing steps.

    05

    Accessories & SKUs

Heads, hands, props, stands, colorways and the total and per-version quantity split.

    06

    Packaging & Market

Tray layout, printed components, cartons, target market, testing needs and inspection plan.

Approve the Complete Figure, Not Only the Sculpt

    Action Figure Manufacturing FAQ

Can FigCrafts make one action figure?

One physical unit can be evaluated as a prototype through 3D printing, vacuum casting or another suitable non-production route. It is not a one-unit injection-molding offer.

What is the injection production MOQ?

Typical injection-molded production MOQ is 500–1,000 units. The exact quantity depends on structure, tooling, materials, decoration, accessories, packaging and the split per SKU.

Can interchangeable heads and accessories be included?

Yes. Heads, hands, weapons, props, helmets and stands can be engineered as part of an authorized B2B figure program and reviewed with the packaging configuration.

Can we sign an NDA, and how are tooling terms handled?

NDA support is available before detailed file exchange. Tooling ownership, storage, maintenance, use and transfer terms are confirmed in the project agreement before tooling begins. Customer-funded tooling arrangements are documented as part of the approved commercial scope.

    Can retail packaging be included?

Yes. Packaging components can be coordinated through established partners to the approved specification, with final assembly, inspection and pack-out completed on-site.

Can testing for EN 71, ASTM F963, CPSIA or REACH be coordinated?

Applicable third-party testing can be coordinated according to the product, materials, age grading and target market. Compliance is not claimed universally before the specific product and test scope are confirmed.

    What affects the project timeline?

The 1–3 business days refers to initial project feedback, not the complete development or production lead time. The schedule depends on the starting file quality, articulation complexity, part count, prototype route, tooling scope, number of sample revisions, decoration, SKU count, packaging readiness, testing and approval response time. A project schedule is prepared after the route and approval gates are defined.
