When a Vinyl Toy Route Fits the Project

Vinyl is a forming and product decision, not only a style label. It is commonly reviewed for stylized hollow character forms where silhouette, surface, color and collector-facing presentation carry the product identity.

Engineering before tooling

Protect the Character While Making the Hollow Form Producible

Large heads, narrow necks, raised arms, deep undercuts, hidden seams and separate accessories can change tooling and part construction. These decisions belong in the digital and prototype stages—not after the appearance is treated as final.

Review together
Silhouette · Release · Seams · Stability · Surface
01

Silhouette & Proportion

Protect the character’s visual identity while confirming size, volume, standing points and display footprint.

02

Part Split & Release

Review head, body, limbs, ears, props and openings so hollow parts can be formed, removed and finished.

03

Wall, Weight & Stability

Evaluate the intended hollow construction, center of mass, base or support and expected handling condition.

04

Seams, Trim & Openings

Place trim, join and opening areas away from critical facial or display surfaces where the design allows.

05

Interfaces & Inserts

Define how separate parts, plugs, bases, accessories or mixed-function components connect and remain secure.

06

Color & Packaging Envelope

Connect formed color, paint, print, loose parts and finished dimensions to the approved retail presentation.

Material and feel direction

Softness Is a Project Specification, Not a Complete Material Answer

Material selection is confirmed by form, required feel, interfaces, appearance, production method and applicable testing requirements.

Large Hollow Shells
Forming behavior, surface quality, intended feel, weight and stability.
Plugs & Interfaces
Fit, retention, assembly sequence and interaction with the surrounding parts.
Accessories, Bases & Inserts
Rigidity, support, compatibility, appearance and packaging protection.
Decorated Surfaces
Adhesion, masking, contact areas, gloss direction and production consistency.
Approval gate
The prototype should prove silhouette, part relationships, balance and surface direction before production tooling.

In-house vinyl production route

From Authorized Design to Final Pack-Out

Approvals are placed before production tooling, bulk decoration and pack-out. FigCrafts performs vinyl rotocasting in-house and coordinates approved packaging components through established partners.

01

Brief & Rights Review

Review authorization, artwork or 3D files, size, quantity, market, finish and packaging direction.

02

3D & Part Engineering

Develop proportions, hollow part splits, openings, interfaces, stability and decoration logic.

03

Prototype & Approve

Confirm the form, scale, balance, part relationships, surface and color direction.

04

Tooling & Trial

Prepare the approved tooling route and review trial parts before bulk production.

05

Rotocast, Trim & Finish

Form hollow parts in-house, prepare seams and surfaces, then apply approved decoration and assembly.

06

Inspect & Pack

Check agreed appearance and completeness criteria, then complete final pack-out on-site.

Control What Buyers See—and What Changes the Quote

Vinyl toys are judged at close range by silhouette, face, seams, color, gloss, print and pack-out. The quotation must therefore connect the approved appearance to construction, quantities, variants and packaging.

Route comparison

Vinyl Toy, Static Figure or Resin Route?

Industry labels overlap. Confirm the forming method, hollow or solid construction, part design, quantity, finish and commercial use before the detailed material specification is approved.

01

Vinyl & Designer Toy Route

A hollow rotocast route commonly reviewed for stylized designer toys, art toys and collectible character forms.

Review static figure route
02

Static & Display Figure Route

A molded multi-part route may better fit detailed static characters, smaller components and repeatable painted assembly.

03

Prototype or Resin Route

A suitable non-production or casting route can be considered for prototypes, detailed samples or qualified limited-volume needs.

Vinyl toy buyer FAQ

Resolve the Product and Commercial Boundary Early

Exact engineering, production quantity, testing and quotation requirements are confirmed after sufficient design, finish, packaging and target-market information is reviewed.

What is a custom vinyl toy?

On this page, it means a custom character product developed around an approved hollow vinyl rotocasting route, together with a defined part, finish, assembly and packaging plan.

Is a vinyl toy the same as a static figure?

Industry labels can overlap. This page focuses on hollow rotocast vinyl products; the static figure route focuses on molded, often multi-part display figurines. The final route and material specification are confirmed per product.

Can FigCrafts review a sofubi or soft-vinyl brief?

Yes. The desired form, softness direction, part split, tooling, color, finish, quantity and target market are reviewed before the production specification is confirmed. The label alone does not define the material or process.

What is the minimum production quantity?

Production quantity is confirmed after reviewing the vinyl route, size, tooling, part count, finish, variants, packaging and per-SKU quantities. Prototype-only needs can start from one physical sample through a suitable non-production method.

Can retail packaging be included?

Yes. Established partners produce approved boxes, printed materials and inserts. FigCrafts coordinates that scope and can complete final assembly, inspection and pack-out on-site.

Can we sign an NDA, and how are tooling terms handled?

NDA support is available before detailed file exchange. Tooling ownership, storage, maintenance, use and transfer terms are confirmed in the project agreement before tooling begins. Customer-funded tooling arrangements are documented as part of the approved commercial scope.

Can testing for EN 71, ASTM F963, CPSIA or REACH be coordinated?

Applicable third-party testing can be coordinated according to the product, materials, age grading and target market. Compliance is not claimed universally before the specific product and test scope are confirmed.

What affects the project timeline?

The 1–3 business days refers to initial project feedback, not the complete development or production lead time. The schedule depends on starting file quality, form and part complexity, prototype route, tooling scope, sample revisions, decoration, SKU count, packaging readiness, testing and approval response time. A project schedule is prepared after the route and approval gates are defined.
